Police nab suspect in drugstore robberies

A man was charged with several felonies after he allegedly punched someone in the face, stole their car, and robbed two different Walgreens pharmacies before fleeing from police Wednesday evening. Police arrested Jordan M. Lewis, 21. He faces charges of second-degree assault, first-degree theft, and two counts of first-degree robbery. He made off with an undisclosed amount of some type of prescription drug in the first robbery, which occurred about 8:15 p.m. at 12315 N. Division St., but it is unclear if he made off with any in the second, said Sgt. John Roys with the Spokane Police Department. Lewis told employees he had a weapon, but he was actually unarmed, Roys said. He robbed the second store, 1708 W. Northwest Blvd., about 9 p.m. An officer who was staking out the area saw the stolen car, a Subaru SUV, parked behind another nearby business. Lewis led him on a short pursuit before he was caught at Buckeye Avenue and Cannon Street. “There were drugs on the ground, drugs all over the car,” Roys said. “It appeared like he was ingesting some of the drugs.” He likely faces additional charges from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, who has jurisdiction over the first robbery. Lewis was taken to a local hospital after police saw him ingesting some of the drugs. He will then be booked into Spokane County Jail. The driver of the Subaru, who Lewis allegedly punched in the face before stealing the car, is also being treated at a local hospital for some facial injuries.
