Today brings break in late winter storms

Today will bring a break in the onslaught of late winter storms across the Inland Northwest. The National Weather Service said it expects some sun to break through the clouds early today before thickening clouds arrive later in the day ahead of a new rain and snow storm. A 30 percent chance of rain today and a high of 44 in Spokane will give way to an 80 percent chance of rain and snow tonight. With a low of 33, it is possible it will be snowing in the early hours of Saturday before temperatures warm up. A high of 45 is expected on Saturday in Spokane. Coeur d’Alene can expect virtually the same weather with a slightly greater chance of precipitation tonight and Saturday. The rest of the weekend should bring chances of rain or snow. Temperatures are expected to remain about the same through early next week with highs in the 40s. Lows will go from the 30s on Saturday night to the middle 20s by Sunday and Monday nights. A broad area of lower air pressure now in the middle of the Gulf of Alaska will continue to direct storm impulses into the Pacific Northwest through the next several days. The next storm is already arriving on the Pacific coast of Washington and Oregon. At 7 a.m., it was 27 at Spokane International Airport and Coeur d’Alene, 29 at Felts Field and 26 in Deer Park and Pullman.
