Newlyweds collide with STA bus on Highway 2

A collision between an STA bus and an SUV about 2:38 p.m. today trapped one person in the car with serious injuries.

Both lanes of westbound Highway 2 a mile east of Airway Heights were fully blocked for several hours but are now reopened, according to the Washington State Patrol.

It is unknown what caused the collision between a blue sport utility vehicle and a Spokane Transit Authority bus.

The driver of the SUV and his female passenger were newlyweds, said Trooper Troy Briggs. Both were injured in the collision, as were some of the bus passengers. The bride was extricated from the vehicle. The couple’s names have not yet been released.

The Washington State Patrol and Spokane County Sheriff’s Office are at the scene investigating. Detectives are asking witnesses of the crash, or the events leading up to or following the crash, to call (509) 227-6560.
