Neah Bay 63, Colton 60

Drexler Doherty scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half and hit a free throw with 7.7 seconds remaining to help clinch a title berth for the Neah Bay Red Devils with the win over the Colton Wildcats.

Doherty’s two 3-pointers in the third quarter capped an 18-point period to give Neah Bay the lead at 46-44. The Devils would not trail again, despite several ties by Colton.

After struggling in the third quarter, Colton’s Dustin Patchen showed up in a big way in the fourth quarter, tallying 11 of his 31 points in the final frame to keep the Wildcats close. Patchen added 14 rebounds and four blocked shots. Josh Straughan scored 16 points for the Wildcats, but had a potential go-ahead 3-point attempt miss wide.

Sunnyside Christian 50, ACH 44

Steven Bosma hit the game-clinching free throws with 13 seconds left and the Knights survived a furious full-court onslaught by the Almira/Coulee-Hartline defense to advance to the title game.

ACH trailed by nine going into the final frame, but picked up the intensity with a full-court press that at one point produced four consecutive turnovers by the Knights. The Warriors capitalized, scoring nine straight to eventually tie the game on a basket by Brandon Boutain. Robert Hurka had three of his four steals in the fourth quarter helping to ignite the ACH offense with breakaway baskets.

Derek Isaak of ACH led all scorers with 19 points after being held scoreless in the opening frame. But his 3-point attempt in the final minute came up short off the iron and a late drive to the paint ended in a turnover that led to Bosma’s winning free throws.
