Kindergarten open house

Valley Christian School, 10212 E. Ninth Ave., will present kindergarten visitation for students to meet their new teachers Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Parents can take their kindergarten student preparing for next year’s classes to the school to learn about the programs at the school, which offers kindergarten through 12th-grade classes.

Activities will also be available.

CV school board special meeting

The Central Valley School District board of directors will have a special meeting/retreat Thursday at 6 p.m. at the district office, 19307 E. Cataldo Ave.

The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss McREL (Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning) research.

West Valley student posters wanted

The Millwood Farmers’ Market will hold a poster contest to advertise the upcoming season.

Participants are asked to submit posters which include the words, “Millwood Farmers’ Market,” and the hours of operation – 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays from May 18 through Sept. 28 – on 8 ½ by 11-inch paper arranged vertically. Any medium is acceptable, including crayon, paint, markers and colored pencil. Computer-generated graphics or clip art are not allowed.

Judges will look for bright colors, creativity and clearly readable text.

Winners will have their art incorporated into the 2011 Farmers’ Market promotional posters and will receive prizes.

The deadline to submit posters is 4 p.m. on April 15.

Student serves as legislative page

Andrew Matheison, an eighth-grader at Valley Christian School, recently served as a page in the Washington House of Representatives.

Matheison, 14, observed the legislature, was responsible for delivering messages and documents and continued his school work.

He was sponsored by Rep. Matt Shea, R-Spokane Valley.
