CC Spokane men win opener at NWAACC tournament

KENNEWICK – Preston Wynne hit four 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 18 points and handed out five assists to propel the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch to a 78-64 victory over the Skagit Valley Cardinals (14-12) in Saturday’s first round of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges men’s basketball tournament at the Toyota Center.

The Sasquatch (20-7) will play the Clackamas Cougars (20-6) in today’s second round at 6 p.m.

Matt Barnes came off the bench for the Sasquatch to score 12 on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor and snare six rebounds. Chaz Johnson added 11 points, while Danny Marshall reeled in a game-high nine rebounds.

Justin King topped SVCC with 17 points, while Jeremy Juarez scored 15.

CC Spokane held Skagit Valley to 32 percent shooting from the floor in the first half and held a 37-29 lead at the break.

The Sasquatch hit 12 of 32 3-point tries, while the Cardinals made 3 of 14.
