Freshman Marco Gonzales pitches Gonzaga past Missouri

THURSDAY, MARCH 10, 2011

Freshman Marco Gonzales (1-2) pitched six shutout innings and Gonzaga (5-6) used a three-run first inning Wednesday to defeat Missouri 4-1 and split a nonconference series at Columbia, Mo.

Gonzales struck out five as the Zags dropped the Tigers to 4-8.

Tyler Chism’s singled capped the Bulldogs’ three-run first.

Women’s golf

Idaho junior Kayla Mortellaro shot a 3-under-par 69 and finished in third place at 7-under 209 at the UNLV Rebel Spring Invitational at Boulder Creek Golf Club.

Mortellaro finished three shots behind co-champions Kelsey Vines of Brigham Young and Danielle Kang of team-champion Pepperdine.

Rodeo

Colbert’s Tyson Durfey won the tie-down roping in 8.6 seconds and earned $2,000 at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
