‘Grease’ singalong Saturday at NIC

Event will benefit CdA Summer Theatre
By The Spokesman-Review

Here’s your chance to watch the 1978 film of “Grease” – and to sing “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee” right along with it.

The “Grease Sing-a-Long” takes place on Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Schuler Performing Arts Center, Boswell Hall at North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene.

The performances won’t be confined to the screen. The audience is encouraged to “come dressed as your favorite character or in your old ’50s attire.”

And even if you’re not costumed, you’re encouraged to belt out all of the lyrics to “Greased Lightning” and every other song on the soundtrack. This special remastered Blu-Ray version of the movie includes subtitles of all of the lyrics.

The singalong version has never been screened in the Inland Northwest. It’s a fundraiser for the Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre, which obtained the rights as a gift “through the generosity of John Travolta and Paramount Pictures,” it said in a press release.

The Travolta family has been a longtime supporter of the theater. Ellen Travolta, of Coeur d’Alene, who played the role of “Waitress” in the film, will speak about her experiences on set.

Tickets are $20, available by calling (208) 769-7780.
