Car accident victim benefit set

SPOKANE COUNTY – The public is invited to a spaghetti feed on Saturday to benefit Jake Gallagher, a Spokane resident who was critically injured in a car accident in December.

The feed will be held at Calvary Chapel of Spokane, 511 W. Hastings Road, from 5 to 8 p.m., and will include entertainment from Gallagher’s band, Half Penny Sparrow and dancers from Dance Emporium. A silent auction will also be held.

The event is free but donations will be accepted. Proceeds will help pay for Gallagher’s medical costs and recovery. For more information, call Gwen Konynenbelt at (509) 991-2003.

SCRAPS chocolate gala is April 29

SPOKANE VALLEY – Tickets are on sale for the SCRAPS sixth annual Chocolate Festival and Auction, to be held April 29 at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center, 404 N. Havana St.

The event will feature chocolates and desserts, silent and live auctions, along with the Parade of Pets, offering adoptable pets.

Tickets purchased before April 15 are $25 per person; after, they are $30 per person.

Historic house topic of meeting

CHENEY – The Community Development Department and the Historic Preservation Commission will host an open house on March 24 at the City of Cheney Utility Building, 112 Anderson Road, at 5:30 p.m. to discuss formation of a board to lead and guide ongoing restoration and future use of the historic Sterling-Moorman House in Cheney.

The house was built in 1884 and was listed on Cheney’s Register of Historic Places in 1996, narrowly escaping demolition in 2006. Through grants, donations, and several hundred hours of volunteer labor, the house has been relocated to a city-owned lot at the corner of 2nd and G Streets in downtown Cheney and restoration work has begun.

The Historic Preservation Commission, which has promoted the Sterling-Moorman House project, will invite community members who have a passion for history to participate in developing a plan for the unique city resource.

Fundraiser benefits Turnbull refuge

EMERSON/GARFIELD – Friends of Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge will have its fourth annual auction on March 27, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Lincoln Center, 1316 N. Lincoln St., to raise funds for Turnbull’s environmental education programs.

The event will include a pasta buffet, dessert and a no-host bar, along with live and silent auctions, featuring works by local wildlife photographers and artists and a unique hand-crafted pine needle basket.

Tickets are $25 per person for Friends members and $30 for nonmembers.

Used book sale coming March 18-19

NORTH SPOKANE – On March 18 and March 19, the Friends of the North Spokane County Library will have its semi-annual used book sale, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale will be held at the North Spokane County Library, 44 E. Hawthorne Road.

Paperback books will be cost 50 cents and hardback books may be purchased for $1. The sale also will include CDs, VHS tapes, DVDs and books on tape.

  All proceeds will be used for library activities, including Spokane Is Reading, summer reading programs for children, teens and adults and early learning materials.
