Freeman fetes champion girls basketball team

Freeman High School celebrated its state championship girls basketball team Wednesday with an assembly at the school.

The girls finished with a 27-1 record, winning their second straight title in Yakima last Saturday with a 49-32 victory over Lynden Christian.

The team includes Kelsey Roche, Katey Gude, Haley Burke, Ryenn Groves, Kaela Straw, Alisha Sorensen, Katie Vold, Danny Cossey, Molly McIntyre, Emily Paukert, Alyssa Maine, MacKenzie Taylor, Sierra McGarity, Mikaela Pilant, Haley Barnes and Christa Harter.

Students Matt Doyle and Matt Floyd assist with the team. The Scotties are coached by Ashlee Nimri and assistant Kayla Floyd.

East Valley events

East Farms Elementary School in the East Valley School District held an assembly to honor students who exemplified the Partners Advancing Character Education’s trait of the month for February, honesty.

Along with honoring the students of the month, fifth-grade student mentors performed a skit to introduce the character trait for March, diligence.

Each monthly character trait is reinforced during classroom lessons and activities throughout the month.

East Valley School District will also hold three public meetings to discuss the current state of its facilities.

The meetings will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the East Valley Middle School cafeteria, 4920 N. Progress Road, Thursday at 6 p.m. in the East Valley High School commons, 15711 E. Wellesley Ave., and March 23 at 6 p.m. in the Trent Elementary School auditorium, 3303 N. Pines Road.

West Valley High School receives defibrillator

West Valley High School has received an automated external defibrillator through Project ADAM from Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital.

The defibrillator will be accessible during the school day and to the community during after-school events.

Principal Gary Neal and the school ASB officers were presented with the device during an assembly Friday.

This is the district’s first AED.

Valley Christian School open house

Valley Christian School, 10212 E. Ninth Ave., will present an open house Monday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The public is invited to learn about school programs. It offers classes from kindergarten through the 12th grade.
