Fertilizer bill doesn’t cut it
Our state is in a financial crisis, yet again we see our legislators voting to add laws that will increase burdens to business, increase state spending to administer and police the new laws, and hurt property owners by eliminating valuable products.
Specifically, a ban on phosphorus in lawn fertilizers was just passed in the House and will certainly be “rubber stamped” by the Senate. Significant scientific testimony was presented showing there is no risk to the environment by the small amounts of this essential plant nutrient currently used in lawn fertilizers. Testimony was also presented that no improvement in water quality has been seen in states where similar bans have been legislated.
Our legislators need to find ways to help pull us out of this financial mess and not add to our burden.
