Resigned North Carolina State coach Sidney Lowe resigned Tuesday, ending a frustrating five-year run in which he failed to lead the Wolfpack to the NCAA tournament. Lowe had an 86-78 overall record, but was just 25-55 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Fired Montana State-Billings men’s basketball head coach George Pfeifer, will not be offered a contract for next season. Pfeifer, who just completed his third season, leaves the school with an overall record of 33-45. His team finished the 2010-2011 season with an 8-18 record and was 6-11 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Pfeifer was the head coach of the Idaho Vandals from 2006-2008.

ConfessedAll four of the Auburn football players arrested last Friday on charges of robbery, burglary and theft of property confessed involvement to police. Mike McNeil, Antonio Goodwin, Shaun Kitchens and Dakota Mosley made rights-advised statements to police shortly after their arrest “admitting involvement in the robbery.”

Suspended South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia has been suspended for the first week of spring practice for violating team rules. Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier wouldn’t specify what the senior did, but hinted that it happened sometime last year.

Ruled A jury found a Chicago woman guilty in the slaying of the pregnant girlfriend of former Chicago Bears player Shaun Gayle. Marni Yang, 43, was found guilty of first-degree murder and intentional homicide of an unborn child. She was accused of shooting Rhoni Reuter in October 2007, killing her and her unborn child. Gayle was a member of the Bears 1985 Super Bowl team.

Died Former defensive right wing Nick Harbaruk, who spent five seasons in the NHL in the 1970s, has died of bone cancer in Toronto. He was 67. Harbaruk played four seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins and one with the St. Louis Blues.
