In brief: Hen leaves behind egg-ceptional output

From Wire Reports

BILLINGS – A Montana hen really has something to cluck about.

Chad Kays, of Lockwood, said that when he went out to collect eggs from the chicken coop Sunday he found an egg big enough for a three-egg omelet.

Unofficially, the egg is just over 3 inches tall and a little more than 2 inches wide, he told the Billings Gazette.

Kays and his sister, Becca Kays, rent a house just northeast of Billings and inherited a dozen chickens when the previous renters left abruptly last year. The hens lay six to 12 eggs a day, but the Kays had never seen anything like the egg they found Sunday morning.

They said they didn’t know which hen laid the sizable egg.

Nike gives $1 million, products to Japan

PORTLAND – Nike Inc. said it will donate $1 million to Japan earthquake relief efforts, plus an additional $250,000 worth of footwear and apparel for victims of the disaster.

Nike said some of the cash donation will be funneled through Architecture for Humanity, a San Francisco-based nonprofit that taps into a network of architects for their assistance in creating communities, especially in devastated areas.

Nike spokeswoman Mary Remuzzi told the Oregonian on Friday that the footwear and apparel will be distributed through Japan’s defense department.
