In brief: Library group plans garden party

LIBERTY LAKE – The Friends of the Liberty Lake Municipal Library will host the seventh annual spring social event, “A Garden Party” on April 16 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 23515 E. Boone Ave., at 1 p.m.

The party will feature speakers from the Corbin and Moore-Turner Heritage Gardens, sharing information on the history of the gardens and the recent restoration. Carol Newcomb of Northland Rosarium will also speak on “Own Root Roses and Why They Work in the Spokane Area.”

Tickets are $20 per person and may be purchased in advance until April 15.

EDGECLIFF – On Sunday, Edgecliff SCOPE will have a community pancake feed at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435, 212 S. David St., from 8 a.m. to noon.

Participants can enjoy breakfast, including pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage and coffee. Cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children ages 10 and under.

GREENACRES – The HUB Sports Center, 19619 E. Cataldo Ave., will do its part to help victims of the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan March 11, with “Jumpers for Japan” on March 27 from noon to 4 p.m.

Members of the community will have an opportunity to participate in the HUB’s Tsunami Relief shoot-a-thon to raise Red Cross donations for medical aid, food, water and shelter. Participants will need to bring their own basketball and a donation for the Red Cross to be in the shoot-a-thon. Each participant will need to allow 20 minutes to complete shooting 50 jump shots. The goal is for each child or adult to request $20 from each person they ask to donate. Any amount of donation will be much appreciated.
