Moved The law firm and the congressional committee that investigated drugs in baseball are fighting pitching standout Roger Clemens over access to evidence collected against him, a development that could delay the trial on charges he lied about being a user. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and the law firm DLA Piper filed motions in federal court in Washington on Friday to quash Clemens’ subpoenas. Clemens wants to see their evidence accusing him of using steroids and human growth hormone, likely looking for weaknesses or inconsistencies in witness testimony to defend himself in the criminal trial scheduled for July.

Signed The Seattle Sounders FC signed Argentine midfielder Mauro Rosales, just three days after a season-opening loss to Los Angeles. Rosales was a member of Argentina’s gold-medal winning side at the 2004 Olympics.

Claimed The Pittsburgh Pirates claimed left-hander Garrett Olson off waivers from the Seattle Mariners. Olson was 0-3 with one save and a 4.54 ERA while making a career-high 35 appearances with the Mariners last season.

Suspended An anti-doping arbitration panel in Colorado Springs, Colo., suspended agent and coach Mark Block for 10 years after finding he trafficked in drugs supplied by BALCO and gave them to his wife, sprinter Zhanna Block. The arbitrators’ ruling, announced by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, said Block tried to mislead them about his involvement with the Bay Area Lab Co-Operative and its founder, Victor Conte.

Released The New York Mets released second baseman Luis Castillo despite still owing him $6 million, cutting ties with a three-time All-Star. Castillo won three Gold Gloves, was a two-time N.L. stolen base champion and helped the 2003 Florida Marlins win the World Series.

Retired Reliever Scot Shields retired after a 10-year career with the Los Angeles Angels spent mostly as the primary setup man during the team’s period of dominance in the A.L. West. The 35-year-old Shields retired as only the third player with at least 10 seasons to spend his entire career with the Angels.

• Tennis player Joachim Johansson, once ranked as high as No. 9, is retiring again after a recent comeback in Davis Cup because he lacks the motivation to stay on tour.
