SALEM, Va. – Whitworth senior guard Michael Taylor was named the D3hoops.com men’s player of the year, was named to a pair of All-America first teams, and led the West to victory at the NABC Division III All-Star game during an eventful Saturday at the Salem Civic Center. Taylor was named a first-team All-American by D3hoops.com and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Taylor, of Brewster, Wash., had 18 points, six rebounds and four assists to lead the West to a 92-81 win over the East at the NABC Reese’s Division III All-Star game. The West opened a big first-half lead before the East rallied to go in front with less than 10 minutes to play. But Taylor sparked the West to its final scoring run by hitting two 3-pointers. “The weekend was a blast and I got to meet some great players and good people,” Taylor said. Taylor was also named the NABC West Region player of the year, D3hoops.com West Region player of the year and Northwest Conference player of the year in his only season with the Pirates.
