Area roundup: Whitworth baseball drubs L&C
Tyler Pfeffer drove in five runs as Whitworth beat Lewis & Clark 17-6 in Northwest Conference baseball Sunday in Portland, giving the Pirates (8-11, 3-3 NWC) their first series win of the season.
• Gonzaga and Notre Dame played to a 3-3 tie after 12 innings at the Irish Baseball Classic in San Antonio. The game was called because both teams had to catch flights. Billy Moon’s RBI single in the ninth tied the game at 3 for the Bulldogs (10-7-1).
• Washington State’s game at Fresno State was rained out. It will not be made up.

• Community Colleges of Spokane won twice at Spokane Falls, beating Grays Harbor 9-2 and topping Okanagan 4-2. Donnie Santos had four hits on the day for the Sasquatch (7-5).
Softball
CCS dropped a pair of games at the preseason tournament in Richland, losing 6-1 to Everett and 8-7 to Southwestern Oregon. Regin Gallagher (Mead), Chrystal Holt (Central Valley) and Jennica Ebel (Colville) each had three hits on the day for the Sasquatch (1-4).
