Library District buys house, property off Argonne

Last week the Spokane County Library District board of trustees voted to purchase a piece of property next to the Argonne Library for future expansion.

An expansion of the library and administrative offices at the corner of Argonne Road and Upriver Drive is part of the district’s facilities master plan, said communications manager Bethany Luck-Hutson.

While the expansion is one of the district’s number one priorities, any construction project is likely years away, she said. “We’re probably looking at no earlier than 2016 for a completion date,” she said. “That’s all budget dependent.”

The small brick house at 9220 E. Upriver Drive was purchased for $129,000 out of the district’s capital fund, said Luck-Hutson. According to the Spokane County Assessors Office website the home is valued at $156,400.

What will become of the house between now and construction remains to be seen. “We have not decided exactly what is going to happen to the house yet,” Luck-Hutson said.
