The Spokane Police Department is warning this evening’s commuters that traffic along streets serving Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena could be tied up this afternoon.
A capacity crowd is expected when the Gonzaga University women’s basketball team takes on Stanford University at 6 p.m. in the Arena for the right to compete in the Final Four round.
Nearly 11,700 tickets have been sold.
Officer Jennifer DeRuwe, police spokeswoman, said routes from downtown and Interstate 90, including Washington, Monroe and Lincoln streets are likely to be crowded along with east-west streets such as Boone Avenue serving the north side entrance to the Arena.
Drivers not attending the game might be smart to take an alternate commute route this afternoon such as Maple and Ash streets.
Delays near the arena are expected from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
