Your week

YOUR HEALTH

With spring officially here, allergy season can’t be far behind. Here are some coping tips from the experts:

• Drive with your windows up and vehicle air-conditioning systems on.

• Turn on your home air-conditioning system (even if the air outside is cool) so the system filters the circulating air. Don’t sleep with windows open.

• Try over-the-counter antihistamines such as Allegra, Claritin and Zyrtec to treat minor symptoms; see a doctor if those don’t do the trick.

• Avoid using antihistamine-decongestant combinations (those often have the D after their name) if you have heart disease or high blood pressure.

YOUR HOME

Then again, pollen is the lifeblood of the floral world around us.

“Attracting Native Pollinators” (Storey, $29.95) encourages readers to help protect the bugs, birds and other creatures that pollinate many of our plants and thus improve our quality of life.

The new book from the nonprofit Xerces Society outlines simple steps, like tolerating a few pollinator-friendly weeds, to more ambitious endeavors such as creating pollinator habitats in lawns, parks and other landscapes.

YOUR FOOD

Lean pork tenderloin is a healthy dinner choice, but one that can dry out if it’s not cooked carefully. A spicy orange and horseradish coating can add both moisture and flavor; for the recipe, see page C7.
