Roller wins for CCS; women also triumph

Freshman Andrew Roller (Coeur d’Alene) collected a victory in his first collegiate golf competition with a 1-over-par 145 to lead a 1-2 finish for Community Colleges of Spokane, but the Sasquatch men had to settle for second at the Columbia Basin Invitational in Kennewick.

Roller shot 72-73 for a seven stroke margin over freshman teammate Grahm Schmaltz. Bellevue beat CCS 619-621.

• Led by Kelsey Berg (167) and Alexa Bell (168), who finished second and third, CCS posted a 22-stroke win in the first NWAACC women’s match of the season in Kennewick, 517-539 over host Columbia Basin.

Gonzaga University freshman left-hander Marco Gonzales is the West Coast Conference pitcher of the week after pitching his second straight complete-game, a shutout, beating then-11th-ranked UC Irvine 3-0 Sunday.
