Bridgeport High School in north central Washington is one of three finalists that could host President Barack Obama as a commencement speaker.

The other finalists are High Tech High International in San Diego and Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis, White House officials announced today.

Six high schools were named finalists in the Race to the Top commencement challenge early last month. Those schools posted videos and essays on the White House website where people could vote for their favorite three. Voting ended midnight Friday.

Obama will select the winning school later this week.

Bridgeport has a population of about 2,400 and is 125 miles west of Spokane.

Bridgeport High School, with 150 students, is 90 percent Hispanic with 100 percent qualified for free and reduced lunch. Many of the students are first generation high school students, yet 82 percent are college-bound at graduation.
