In brief: March for Babies is Saturday

LOGAN – The March of Dimes will have its annual March for Babies on Saturday, beginning on the lawn at Gonzaga University’s Jundt Art Museum, 502 E. Boone Ave. Registration and donation drop-off will be at 9 a.m.; opening ceremonies will be at 9:30 and the march will start at 10.

The event will help pay the nonprofit organization’s support for babies with urgent health problems.

COPS to host crime prevention forum

EMERSON/GARFIELD – Spokane COPS will host a crime prevention forum, ENUFF – Every Neighborhood United For Families – on Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 732 W. Indiana Ave., and May 17 at the Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m.

The free events will include experts from Block Watch, information about the McGruff Safe House program, current crime trends and how neighbor-to-neighbor connectedness can help make neighborhoods safer. Information tables, light snacks and door prizes will also be available.

Neighborhood plans sale this weekend

CAMELOT – On Saturday and Sunday, the residents of Camelot neighborhood will hold their annual garage sale.

As part of the community garage sale, shoppers can help local Catherine Davis, whose parents will be holding their own garage sale in the same neighborhood on the corner of Winchester Avenue and Guinevere Drive.

Davis, 23, is battling a rare and fatal disease called rapidly advancing diffuse scleroderma. Her medical bills are increasing and her family is looking to the community for help. Proceeds from the garage sale held at Jim and Sally Davis’ home will help pay for her medical expenses.

Legislative meeting will be Tuesday

NORTHWEST – The 6th Legislative District will meet Tuesday at the Shadle Library, 2111 W. Wellesley Ave., in the meeting room. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m.

The guest speakers will include Mayor Mary Verner.
