In brief: Registration still open for baseball

SPOKANE VALLEY – Spokane Valley Baseball will accept registration for a limited time.

The youth league will begin to form teams but players are still welcome to join.

Forms may be picked up at the Spokane Valley Baseball office, 101 N. Bowdish Road or found at spokanevalley baseball.com.

Junior soccer registration now open

SPOKANE VALLEY – Registration is now open for the Spokane Valley Junior Soccer Association’s fall/spring 2011-’12 season.

A new U5 division will begin in the fall.

Lawn care business owner granted permit

OTIS ORCHARDS – Otis Orchard resident Tim Amen was granted a conditional use permit last week for the lawn care and pruning business he operates at his rural home.

Spokane County Hearing Examiner Michael Dempsey noted Amen has operated the seasonal business on the 4.8-acre property at 20909 E. Euclid Ave. since 2009, when he moved the business from Spokane Valley.

The site is in a Rural-5 zone that requires five acres for each dwelling.

One family objected to the permit on grounds of noise and appearance.

MOW hosting Mother’s Day lunch Friday

OPPORTUNITY – Valley Meals on Wheels and the Coeur d’Alene Casino will host a special Mother’s Day lunch on Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines Road.

The event to honor moms and caregivers will include live entertainment by the Old Time Fiddlers.
