Gentler cuts better for schools
The budget cut affects everyone in the Spokane Public School system, especially faculty and students. Faculty positions are endangered as a way to save $5 million. The students are affected the most; a larger class size will hinder their academic potential. A tighter budget is clearly a problem, but students and faculty should not be affected so dramatically.
Maintaining the educational system the way it is except with more minor adjustments will be the best solution for everyone.
Taking small cuts from extracurricular activities can help to save money but still allow students to have their athletics and music. Reducing field trips to once a year will also save money. This might displease some students, but saving money in order to keep class sizes small will be more beneficial for students.
This will enable them to have more one-on-one time with their teachers so they can progressively excel in their classes and maintain their GPAs. This solution will also keep faculty employed, by keeping class sizes smaller allowing for more classes.
