Trash days changing as routes consolidated

Reorganization should make pickup more efficient, easier in winter

Residents in the greater Spokane Valley area served by Waste Management will see new trash pickup days beginning the week of May 16. More than 44,000 customers will be affected by the change, including some in unincorporated Spokane County both south and north of Spokane Valley.

The changes are being made to consolidate routes and make them more efficient, according to a Waste Management press release. It should also make things easier for drivers during winter weather.

Residents should expect to get a letter and a phone call from Waste Management before the new days take effect. Reminder stickers will also be placed on garbage containers.

The new days may create a situation where some residents have to wait more than seven days for a trash pickup. According to Waste Management the company will collect a double load at no extra cost on the first day of the new collection schedule.
