In brief: Diana’s gowns sell for $276,000

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – Two dresses worn by Princess Diana have sold for a record $276,000 at an auction in Beverly Hills.

Darren Julien, president and CEO of Julien’s Auctions, said Saturday that a black crepe evening gown Diana wore during a state visit in 1992 fetched the higher price of $144,000. A light blue strapless gown with accompanying stole sold for $132,000 and was worn on three occasions, including at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival.

The auction attracted bidders from around the world, and organizers believe the recent royal wedding between Diana’s son, Prince William, and Kate Middleton helped boost the sale price of both dresses.

The dresses were designed by Catherine Walker.

Bieber will record bullying message

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Justin Bieber has agreed to record a public service announcement on cyberbullying in order to resolve criminal charges filed against his manager and a record executive after a frenzy at a New York mall.

The case stemmed from an incident in 2009, when thousands of unruly girls turned up at a Long Island clothing store to see the teen pop star sign autographs. Police hadn’t been expecting the crowd, and ordered the event canceled.

Def Jam Records executive James Roppo was arrested after police said he refused to help disperse the crowd. Months later, police also pressed child endangerment charges against Bieber’s manager, Scott Braun.

Prosecutors told a judge Friday that they are dropping charges against both men. The record company and a management company pleaded guilty to fire code violations.
