Northwood Middle School wins Grand Sweepstakes in Lilac Parade

Each year hundreds of area schoolchildren gather for a rite of spring: the Junior Lilac Parade through downtown Spokane.

It was no different this year as school marching groups and other youth organizations from around the region took to the streets Saturday, racing to beat the rain. The 2011 winners in the parade, themed “Six Decades of Celebration”:

Division 1

1st: Medical Lake band

2nd: West Valley beginning band and Liberty fifth- and sixth-grade band

Division 2

1st: Mountain View Middle School

2nd: Centennial Middle School

Division 3

1st: Greenacres Middle School

2nd: Horizon Middle School

Division 4

1st: Shaw Middle School

2nd: Garry Middle School

Division 5

1st: Mountain Side Middle School

2nd: Sacajawea Middle School
