Assessor issues persist

So, the Spokane County assessor’s office has been outed for its bureaucratic and top-management disregard to serving Spokane taxpayers. What is going to happen now?

Are the taxpayers who did not pay the amount of taxes owed going to get away with not having to make up the tax payments they missed? No one will ever be able to convince me those folks did not notice the errors in their tax billings.

Who is going to point out to Ms. Horton the fact that the 40 percent construction threshold that is common in Washington’s counties is not a reason for her to fall in line. Is this an indication that there are still rules being ignored in her office?

Will Ms. Horton ever certify in writing all problems are now remedied or in the process thereof?

Last but not least, if the state auditor’s bureaucracy can’t compute the amount of taxes lost to Spokane County and the state, why should we believe that all the problems have been solved?

Also, I disagree with the author of the April 9 editorial in the Review that “it probably wasn’t all that much, relatively speaking.” If it was $25 it was, “relatively speaking” too much!
