LC girls, Mead boys dominate District 8 4A golf

The Lewis and Clark girls will send a foursome to the State 4A tournament after District 8 qualifying at Indian Canyon Golf Course on Tuesday.

LC’s Megan Haase was medalist after shooting a 69 on Monday at Wandermere and following up with a 77 at Indian Canyon for a 146 total.

LC’s Sydney Kersten was second, seven shots back. Teammates Pilar Alfaro (173, fourth) and Katie Larson (181, sixth) are also headed to state.

The Mead boys qualified three for state. Evan Dyar, who was runner-up to LC’s Robby McKee by two strokes (142-144) for medalist honors, led the way. Dyar will be joined by teammates Stephen Thoen (149, fourth) and Aaron Henderson (150, fifth).

The top seven advance to state.

• 3A: The Bezdicek sisters of Mt. Spokane finished 1-2 at the District 8 tournament at MeadowWood Golf Course and earned two of five state berths.

Sierra had a two-day total of 144, six shots in front of Savana.

The Mt. Spokane boys grabbed all five state berths, led by Tye Morrison (149). Also qualifying were Austin Billeter (151), Zack Spencer (154), Nick Thurston (156) and Marcus Bolam (158).

• 1A: Freeman’s Alyssa Maine earned girls medalist honors and qualified for the State 1A tourney by shooting an 83 at a regional at Chewelah Golf and Country Club.

Omak’s Ryder Lewis was the boys medalist, carding a 74 at Chewelah, one stroke better than Freeman’s Jess Wingett.

Chelan won both team titles.

Softball

Hannah Beloved fired a complete-game two-hitter and Ashlynn Bocook, Lauryn Stewart and Kristie McGowan drove in runs as the Mead Panthers blanked the Central Valley Bears 3-0 at Whitworth University to earn the No. 2 seed to regionals.

Central Valley is the No. 3 seed. The Bears eliminated Lewis and Clark 5-1 in the first game of the day.

Mead will play Wenatchee at 1 p.m. Saturday, while CV will play Richland at 1 p.m. Saturday. The tournament is in Moses Lake.

Baseball

The three 1B regional games at University were rained out and will be played today at the same times.
