CV FBLA raises $1,618.94 to help March of Dimes

The Central Valley Future Business Leaders of America chapter has presented the March of Dimes with $1,618.94.

The students held a “Change for Babies” fundraiser during February. Classes at the school competed to see who could raise the most funds collected in baby bottles.

Melanie Heacock’s class collected the most – $530.37 – and earned a pizza party.

Over the past 17 years, CV has raised more than $30,000 for the March of Dimes.

Kudos

• Danica Cramer, a senior at Freeman High School, has received the 2011 Sam Campbell Memorial Scholarship from the Spokane Valley Chamber Foundation.

The $500 scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating senior who plans to study a business program in college.

Cramer is involved in the Future Business Leaders of America, the National Honor Society, the yearbook, varsity tennis and soccer, Future Farmers of America, the Conservation Club, choir and the leadership class.

She plans to attend California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo this fall to study agricultural business with a minor in nutrition.

• The DECA Chapter at West Valley High School traveled to Orlando recently to compete in the International Career Development Conference.

The team earned 10 medals: Charstie Saville, gold, for her Merit Awards Project; Matthew Cato, finalist medal, top presentation medal and top 10 award in Professional Sales; Trevor Emerson, Crystal Swanson and Katherine Elvir, finalist medals and top 10 medals for their Community Service Project; Erin Gracyalny, finalist medal in Financial Operations Research.

• The Associated Student Body at Progress Elementary School in the Central Valley School District raised $653 for victims of the Japanese tsunami and earthquake with a penny drive last month.

Students in kindergarten through the fifth grade collected pennies for the donation.

The two classrooms that raised the most money received an ice cream party.

Clothing drive

Fifth-graders at Liberty Lake Elementary School, 23606 W. Boone Ave., will hold a clothing drive Monday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

They are looking for new or gently used children’s clothing sizes 4T through 12 to benefit Inland NW Baby, a charity founded by Central Valley sophomore Jesse Sheldon.
