Lakeside tops Colville for District 6/7 title

 

Vanessa Ahrendt allowed six hits while striking out eight and went 2 for 3 at the plate to lead the Lakeside Eagles to a 9-2 victory over the Colville Indians in the District 6/7 1A tournament championship at Cascade High School in Leavenworth.

Lakeside (22-2) fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning before scoring eight runs in the bottom of the inning to win going away, grabbing the No. 1 seed to state as a result. Colville (18-5) is headed to state as the No. 2 seed.

Ahrendt began the day with a 14-strikout effort and Nikki Tiffany had three hits including a two-run home run as the Eagles topped Chelan 7-3.

2A Regional: Selah slipped past West Valley 5-4 to grab the No. 1 seed to state in the tournament in Selah.

West Valley (24-1), the No. 2 seed to state, advanced to the championship by winning a pair of earlier games.

The Eagles began the day with a 10-0 victory over Grandview and followed up with a 13-6 win over Ellensburg.

Cheney (16-8) was eliminated when it lost to Othello 8-5. The Blackhawks jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead with most of the damage coming on Mandy McDowell’s three-run home run. Alyssa Martinez had a run-scoring single for the fourth run of the inning.

Cheney led 4-2 before Othello scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth.

1B Regional: Almira/Coulee-Hartline (22-1) broke open a tie game by scoring nine runs over the final two innings en route to a 12-3 victory over Garfield-Palouse in the championship game at Medical Lake High School.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline, which earned the top seed to state, outhit Garfield-Palouse 14-5 on the day. The Vikings grabbed the No. 2 seed.

Also earning state berths were the Colton Wildcats and Selkirk Rangers (16-5).

Colton smacked 17 hits and pushed across nine runs in the third inning on its way to a 17-6 five-inning victory over Selkirk.

The Wildcats will be seeded third at state, with the Rangers going as the fourth seed.

District 7 2B: Kettle Falls (18-2) topped Colfax 6-4 in the championship game of the District 7 2B tournament held at Merkel Field in Spokane.

Kettle Falls heads to state as the top seed, while Colfax (13-6) will be seeded second.

Northwest Christian and Reardan earned the final two seeds to state.
