Cited NASCAR driver Kyle Busch was clocked by a North Carolina sheriff’s deputy going 128 mph in a 45 mph zone and was cited for careless and reckless driving and speeding in Statesville, N.C. Busch was driving a 2012 yellow Lexus sports car on a road between Troutman and Mooresville, where the driver lives. The deputy said Busch was cited and released upon a written promise to appear in court.

Repaired Indianapolis Colts star quarterback Peyton Manning had neck surgery in Chicago to repair a disk problem. It’s the second neck surgery since February 2010 for Manning. The previous was to repair a pinched nerve, and this operation was less invasive and less complicated, team owner Jim Irsay said.

Diagnosed Chicago Blackhawks Hall-of-Famer Stan Mikita, 71, says he has been diagnosed with stage 1 oral cancer. “Stan has been diagnosed with an early case of tongue cancer and the prognosis is excellent,” said Dr. Richard Borrowdale of Loyola Medical Center, who is treating Mikita.

Withdrawn Two days before the start of the Senior PGA Championship, Paul Azinger, who captained the U.S. to an emotional Ryder Cup win at Valhalla Golf Club in 2008, has withdrawn from the tournament at Louisville, Ky. Tournament officials did not know why he was withdrawing.

Fined NASCAR docked Ron Hornaday 25 points and fined his crew chief $10,000 for failing inspection after the Trucks Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. NASCAR said that Hornaday and crew chief Jeff Hensley were fined because the truck had an unapproved rear-end gear ratio at last week’s race.

Selected Longtime NFL linebackers Charles Haley and Dexter Coakley were selected for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame’s Divisional class for players and coaches who made their marks at small colleges. Haley played at James Madison from 1982-85. Coakley starred at Appalachian State from 1993-96.

Suspended NASCAR suspended a crew member from Jeff Burton’s team for violating the substance abuse policy. Richard Childress Racing said after the suspension was announced that Gary Frost has been fired. Frost was most recently listed as a mechanic for Burton’s No. 31 Chevrolet.
