Firm budget stand applauded

Kudos to Sen. Jeff Baxter for being one of the few legislators with the resolve and principle to reject the budget passed by the Senate.

While legislators bemoan the budget deficit and fret over the “tough cuts” they’ve had to make, the fact is the 2011-’13 budget passed by the Senate spends more money than the previous 2009-’11 budget; $2 billion more to be exact. I don’t know how things work in Olympia, but here in the real world when you are in a recession and facing a “deficit,” you don’t spend more, you spend less.

Thank you to Sen. Baxter for resisting the pressure to approve a budget just so legislators can be done with it and go home. Maybe if we had more lawmakers in Olympia like Baxter, the state wouldn’t be in such a financial mess.
