Snoqualmie Pass work suspended for holiday weekend

Interstate 90 east of Snoqualmie Pass will have two lanes open in both directions over the Memorial Day weekend, one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. The Washington State Department of Transportation and contractor crews will open two lanes in each direction from Easton (milepost 70) to the Cle Elum area (milepost 80) Friday around 9 a.m. Drivers may experience minor delays due to a concrete barrier dividing the two westbound lanes west of the weigh station, the agency said. Road work from Lake Easton to Big Creek has prompted some lane closures on the freeway, but the Big Creek project will be on hiatus through the weekend. Still, drivers should plan for added travel time due to significantly higher traffic volumes this weekend, the state said. Drivers can plan ahead using these resources: ·View the state’s Memorial Day weekend travel graphs ·Check out “What’s Happening” on the I-90 Web page. ·Click on the Travel Alerts Web page. ·Tune into Highway Advisory Radio at 1610 AM and 530 AM. After Labor Day weekend, the state and contractor crews will resume 24-hour lane closures on the Big Creek project to repair and replace the right eastbound lane of I-90 near Easton. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, crews may work in the project area, but lane restrictions will typically occur only at night. This project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2012.
