Good time to try transit
Every day, many easily accessible buses are driving around the city of Spokane half empty. Even though gas prices are rising, people continue to use their gas-guzzling vehicles, when for a mere $1.25 they could get anywhere around the city.
Now is the time to support public transit. Gas prices are soaring because of international conflict. The United States imports most of its oil from the Middle East, where hundreds of soldiers are giving their lives so that we can drive to work every day. If we reduced our gas consumption by riding buses, there would be less of a demand for foreign oil.
Furthermore, it can be pleasant to ride the bus. The commute allows the rider not to worry about keeping an eye on the road. Instead, the bus passenger can read a book or a magazine, or talk on the phone, or text (which would be illegal for someone behind the wheel).
For the most part, a bus will take a commuter all over the city. No matter where people need to go, there is most likely a bus route close by.
Tomorrow, instead of hopping into your car, consider an alternative: Take the bus.
