In brief: Odor leads to body in Peaceful Valley

Police were investigating Saturday the discovery of a badly decomposed human body found Friday night in Peaceful Valley.

The body was discovered in a heavily wooded area by neighbors, according to a Spokane Police Department news release. They had “complained of a foul odor nearby” and found the body about 7 p.m., the release said.

The body was taken to Providence Holy Family Hospital on Friday. Due to poor light and weather conditions Friday, detectives secured the scene and began investigating Saturday morning, the release said. Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.

Crash claims life of Wellpinit man

A Wellpinit man died in a one-car crash Saturday about 4:30 p.m. on Ford Wellpinit Road, just west of Martha Boardman Road.

Cary Alvin Abrahamson, 39, was eastbound in a Chevrolet Camaro on Ford Wellpinit when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve and drove off the road to the right, according to the Washington State Patrol. The car struck a rock and rolled down an embankment; Abrahamson was ejected from the vehicle.

Authorities said he died at the scene and attributed the accident to inattention. Abrahamson was not wearing a seat belt, the news release said.
