Missouri eliminates Washington in Super Regionals
Tigers ace Thomas bit too much for Huskies
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Once the Huskies’ bats got rolling in game two of the NCAA Super Regionals, 12th-seeded Washington did some things that not many have against Missouri ace Chelsea Thomas.
Thomas and the fifth-seeded Tigers however, hung on for the 6-3 win Sunday, taking the final spot in the Women’s College World Series and eliminating the Huskies in two games.
The Huskies outhit the Tigers 10-4. It was only the second time all season Thomas has allowed 10 hits and also just the sixth time she has allowed three runs in one game.
Missouri, playing as the visiting team in the second game of the Super Regional format, scored five runs in the top of the first inning and added a single run in the third.
The Huskies broke through against Thomas in the fifth inning. Senior Jenn Salling led off with a single and later scored on an error, then Kaitlin Ingelsby added a two-run double for the Huskies. That would be all the scoring UW could manage as Missouri advanced to the World Series, which begins Thursday in Oklahoma City.
Also qualifying for the World Series were California, Alabama, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Oklahoma, Arizona State and Florida.
