Help us replace Dorothy Dean cookbook pages

In the years that I have served as the editor of the Food section, I have searched for countless Dorothy Dean recipes and leaflets for readers.

I have come into the office before looming holidays to dig out the recipes for readers desperate to keep their holiday traditions intact. And I have searched in vain for recipes based on just an ingredient or two and a vague recollection of those beloved dishes.

I haven’t always been successful, but to honor the Dorothy Dean tradition I’ve always tried to find the recipes for each and every caller.

Now, I need your help.

During recent efforts to reissue the Dorothy Dean recipe collection for readers, we discovered that some pages are missing from our archive collection of those leaflets. We’re hoping someone out there might have them and allow us to scan or copy the pages.

The recipe pages we are missing are from very early in the history of the Dorothy Dean Homemakers Service, specifically 1939 and 1940. We’re missing the pages D-17 to D-32 and E-23.

For those who know the collection well, this is from the first run through the alphabet. Leaflets with the same letter and number were also released in the early 1960s, but those are not the pages we need.

In exchange for allowing us to copy the pages, the marketing department can offer a compact disc with all of the Dorothy Dean pages that have been reissued so far, including recipe leaflets from 1935 through 1939 (a $65 value).

If you can help, please send a note to shop@spokesman.com or call (509) 459-5056.
