Mt. Spokane, University lose close matches at 3A girls soccer regional

Kristyn Bohlander scored the deciding goal in a 4-3 shootout Wednesday as visiting Kamiakin nipped Mt. Spokane 2-1 in 3A regional girls soccer.

Alexia Pruneau, Rachel Jones and Sydney Nelson scored in the shootout for Mt. Spokane, but the Wildcats (9-7) missed their final two attempts as the Braves connected on their final three.

Mt. Spokane led 1-0 until the 65th minute, when Ellie Heiden scored for Kamiakin.

Wildcats junior Alyssa Lloyd’s goal came at 28 minutes on a rebound off the crossbar.

The Wildcats will play University at 1 p.m. Saturday at Albi Stadium for the third and final berth to state. Kamiakin will travel to Southridge for seeding to state.

Also at regional, Hannah Sanders set up the tying goal at 55 minutes and scored the winner at 70 minutes as host Southridge defeated University 4-3 to qualify for state. The Titans (8-7) led 1-0 at 5 minutes on Shayla Weiler’s volley after a long throw-in from Lexi Clark. Kamiakin’s Michelle Foster responded with goals 2 minutes apart, but U-Hi took a 3-2 lead into halftime on Rylee Rassier’s rebound goal and Emma Kennedy’s goal off a cross from Laura Seymour.

• In District 7 1A play, Freeman (7-5) earned the No. 3 berth to regionals with a 3-1 win over Colville at G-Prep that eliminated the Indians (7-9). Sierra McGarity, Lindsay DeHaus and Hailey Burke scored for Freeman during the first 21 minutes. Colville avoided the shutout when Tasha Luu ripped a 20-yard shot at 53 minutes that just eluded the Scotties’ goalkeeper. Freeman and Colville split during the regular season. Freeman will play at Cashmere at 2 p.m. Saturday for a berth to state. … Lakeside (8-7) met Newport (15-2) for the district title in a late match that wasn’t reported. Both will host regional matches at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Boys soccer

Karl Muelheims scored five goals in the first 34 minutes and St. George’s (12-3-2) rolled to an 11-0 win over visiting Dayton in District 7/9 2B/1B play. Erik Muelheims added four assists for the Dragons, who will play Waitsburg-Prescott at 1 p.m. Saturday at Prescott for seeding to state, an eight-team tournament that begins Nov. 12. St. George’s and Waitsburg-Prescott tied at 2 on Sept. 17 and tied at 3 on Oct. 7. … Waitsburg-Prescott advanced by eliminating Northwest Christian 5-1 at Prescott. Francisco Gonzalez and Lino Diaz scored twice apiece for the Cardinals, who also defeated NWC 3-1 during the regular season. NWC avoided the shutout when Payton Gray fed Austin Friedly for a goal in the 76th minute. The Crusaders finished 7-11.

Volleyball

At Colfax, Cassy Mendoza’s 15 kills guided Tekoa-Oakesdale to a sweep of Pomeroy and a berth in the title match of the District 9 1B tournament. Eden Anderson added six blocks for the Nighthawks, who will meet Colton at 1 p.m. Saturday in Pullman for a berth to state. Colton advanced with a sweep of St. John-Endicott. The day began with Pomeroy beating Garfield-Palouse 3-1 and SJE outlasting LaCrosse-Washtucna 3-2. Saturday’s loser-out matches at Pullman are Gar-Pal against SJE at 10 a.m. and Pomeroy against L-W at 11:30.
