Church Notes: Buddhist Temple food festival this weekend

Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St., will present its 21st Annual Fall Food Festival on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The festival, Aki Matsuri, will offer chicken and vegetarian yakisoba bento box lunches with miso soup or Japanese cabbage for $12, available for dine-in or carry-out.

There will also be senbei for $4, char-shui (barbecued pork) for $5, futomaki (sushi) rolls for $7, California rolls, Inari and more.

The temple will also offer tours during the event.

Pre-orders are recommended; the temple has been known to sell out of meals.

In conjunction with the festival, the temple will present music with Todd Milne and Moksha Friday at 7 p.m.

The world fusion band includes flutes, electronic wind instruments, African drums and percussion instruments. Ellicia Milne will perform on dulcimer and harp. Aaron Mark will be featured on percussion.

Attendance is a suggested donation of $10, and the proceeds benefit the temple.

Bazaars and craft sales

It’s the first Saturday of November, which in Spokane means it’s time to hit all of the craft fairs, bazaars and bake sales at area churches.

• The women’s group of Liberty Park United Methodist Church, 1526 E. 11th Ave., will present its annual craft, book and bake sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Items up for sale include Christmas items, quilted items, paperbacks and more.

From 9 a.m. to noon, there will be a continental breakfast of cinnamon rolls with coffee, tea and juice for $2.

• Covenant United Methodist Church, 15515 N. Gleneden Drive, will present its holiday arts and crafts festival Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Regional crafters will exhibit their handmade arts and crafts. There will also be a concession stand and espresso.

• Audubon Park United Methodist Church, 3908 N. Driscoll Blvd., will present its holiday bazaar Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event will include a bake shop, Christmas and craft items, a silent auction and refreshments.

Central United Methodist Church, 518 W. Third Ave., will present the Upper Columbia Academy’s Chorale and Octet Concert as part of its service Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Veterans Day observance

Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 1926 W. Chelan Ave., will present retired U.S. Army Chaplain Donald Ott on Sunday.

Ott, senior chaplain at Deaconess and Valley Hospitals, will speak on his thoughts and experiences as a military chaplain. He has served several deployments in Iraq.

First Friday with the bishop

Immaculate Heart Retreat Center, 6910 S. Ben Burr Road, will present another installment in its First Fridays with the Bishop series featuring Bishop Blase Cupich.

The day will begin at 11:15 a.m. with Mass, followed by lunch and a 90-minute talk by the bishop.

The cost to attend is $15 to cover the cost of lunch.
