Southeast Blvd. reopened after injury accident

Spokane firefighters and police were on the scene of a two-vehicle accident that hospitalized two drivers this afternoon. Witnesses of the 3:00 p.m. accident said a young man was traveling the wrong way on Southeast Boulevard at a high rate of speed in a Honda CRV when he struck a Fed Ex delivery truck head on, mangling both vehicles and scattering debris around the scene. The driver of the CRV was extricated and airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries; the other driver was also hospitalized, but authorities do not believe his injuries are life threatening, said Officer Jennifer DeRuwe, a Spokane police spokeswoman. Their names have not been released and the crash is still under investigation. Southeast Boulevard from 29th Avenue to Regal Street was closed for several hours as investigators processed the scene, causing heavy congestion in the area.
