Freeman lands first state berth since 2008

Freeman’s high-scoring offense was slowed Friday night, but the Scotties still managed to secure their first State 1A playoff berth since 2008.

The Scotties (9-1) took an early lead and held on to beat Okanogan 26-12 in a play-in game at Freeman. The Scotties will play at Connell next Friday in the first round.

The 26 points were a season low for the Scotties, who had averaged just more than 40 points per game prior to Friday’s contest.

Cody Unfred’s 29-yard pass to Justin Barrong gave Freeman a 14-0 first-quarter lead. Okanogan responded in the second half with two touchdowns, but Unfred threw for a score and ran for another to put the game away.

Cashmere 56, Newport 20: Moe Roberts ran for three touchdowns as the Bulldogs scored early and often in a rout of the visiting Grizzlies (7-3) in a 1A play-in game. Cashmere scored 21 points in the first quarter and 28 in the second quarter. Travis Martin threw three fourth-quarter touchdowns for Newport.

Great Northern League

East Valley 44, Pullman 20: Adam Talley ran for three touchdowns as the Knights (4-5, 2-3) came alive late and routed the host Greyhounds (1-9, 0-5) in a season finale. East Valley outscored Pullman 34-13 in the second half.

State 2B play-in

Colfax 43, Asotin 0: The Bulldogs (9-0) put the game away early and advanced to the state playoffs with a rout of the visiting Panthers (4-5). Alvin Li ran for 153 yards and a touchdown for Colfax, which led 36-0 at halftime. The state playoffs begin next Saturday.

Lind-Ritzville 12, Dayton 0: Led by their defense, the Broncos (8-1) punched their ticket to the state playoffs with a win over visiting Dayton (5-4). Chris Steinmetz ran for 145 yards and a touchdown to lead Lind-Ritzville/Sprague. The Broncos play at Manson next week.

DeSales 35, Reardan 34: Seth Hansen threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Roy Walser in the fourth quarter, giving DeSales (7-2) a win over the visiting Indians (6-3). Johnny Kieffer ran for 187 yards and three touchdowns for Reardan.

District 7 1B playoffs

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 40, Wellpinit 0: Similar to their first matchup this season, the Warriors (10-0) scored early and often and routed the host Redskins (8-2) in a game that ended at halftime. ACH will host Wilbur-Creston Thursday in a state play-in game. Wellpinit will host Garfield-Palouse next weekend.

Wilbur-Creston 48, Columbia-Inchelium 6: Hayden Herdrick and Davey Ogle led the way as the Wildcats (4-5) eliminated the host Timberwolves (3-7). Herdrick ran for three scores and Cohen ran for two and threw for another.

Odessa-Harrington 54, Cusick 14: Jared King threw for four touchdowns and ran for four more as the Titans (6-3) beat the visiting Panthers (6-4). Odessa-Harrington hosts Colton while Cusick plays at Touchet next week in the District 7/9 1B crossover playoffs.

Nonleague

Gonzaga Prep 49, Wenatchee 30: The Bullpups (6-4) built a comfortable first-half lead and cruised to a win over the host Panthers. Griffin Hare led the way for G-Prep with 188 rushing yards and two TDs. Zach Bonneau added 110 yards and two scores.

Rogers 15, Walla Walla 13: The Pirates (2-8) deflected a two-point conversion attempt late in the fourth quarter and beat the Blue Devils at Gonzaga Prep for their first two-game win streak in a decade. Anthony Hampton scored on an 80-yard run in the first quarter.

Lewis and Clark 35, Richland 28: The Tigers (7-3) rallied in the second half and beat the host Bombers. In the second half, Brennan Schon caught two TD passes from Jeff Livingston to help erase a seven-point halftime deficit.

Lakeside (WA) 34, Tonasket 13: Cody Corbit ran for 204 yards and two TDs as the Eagles (2-8) routed the visiting Tigers.

Northport 32, Selkirk 22: David Higgins ran for 257 yards and five TDs to lead the Mustangs (6-4) past the visiting Rangers (3-7). Northport plays Pomeroy in the D7/9 playoffs next week.

Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia 63, Springdale 32: Ryan Maley threw four touchdown passes and Joe Gains ran for three scores as the Nighthawks (5-4) routed the visiting Chargers (1-9).

Davenport 28, Tri-Cities Prep 26: The Gorillas (5-5) scored in each quarter and beat the visiting Jaguars (3-7). Wyatt Evers scored on a 21-yard run in the second quarter for Davenport.

Curlew 38, Republic 18: Doug Beedle ran for 75 yards and three touchdowns as the Cougars (3-6) beat the visiting Tigers (2-7).

Idaho State 4A

Middleton 42, Lakeland 20: Middleton broke open a close game in the second half and eliminated the host Hawks (6-4) at Rathdrum. Chadley Miller, Corey Hansel and Eric Cooper rushed for Lakeland scores.
