Tired of cop-outs
It has become painfully obvious from actions by some police officers that not all of them get the message from the Thompson/Zehm verdict. So here’s a clue: It is not OK to lie in an investigation. Not ever.
We are tired of officers sticking to their story, regardless of the truth; and it is not OK to beat suspects. Karl got the “cop discount” by not being charged with murder. An everyday citizen would have faced murder charges.
Yeah, yeah, police work is a dangerous job. Looking at recent history, it’s more dangerous to the citizens. Man up. It’s your job to protect everyone, even those you are arresting. If you don’t think that part of your pay is to take a risk, you are wrong. Object all you want, you are still wrong. Don’t like it? Get a different job.
Most of all, we are tired of the police and politicians (see Doug Clark’s commentary – Nov. 3) closing ranks and saluting members of the police that are clueless. Politicians we can vote against. The police who do understand should shun, not salute, those who don’t.
