Kent finishes eighth in WSU’s last match of the fall
Sophomore Mallory Kent placed eighth as Washington State completed its fall women’s golf slate Tuesday at the Challenge at Onion Creek at Austin, Texas.
Kent shot a final-round 2-over-par 72 to finish at 9-over 219, seven shots behind medalist Gabriella Dominguez of Texas Tech. It was the second top-10 finish of Kent’s career.
The Cougars (916) placed 11th in the 13-team field. Texas Tech (874) won by four strokes.
Gonzaga senior midfielder Sarah Rhodes was named to the All-West Coast Conference second team.
Rhodes had four goals and seven assists to lead the Bulldogs’ offense. Her seven assists tied Claire Whitfield (1999) and Cassie Geerdts (2010) for GU’s single-season record. She also became the Zags’ all-time assists leader with 18.
Whitworth senior JT Meyer was selected as Northwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Meyer had one goal and one assist as the Pirates capped their season Saturday with a 3-1 win over Whitman that allowed them to tie Pacific Lutheran for the NWC title. Whitworth (14-3-1) didn’t receive an at-large berth to the NCAA Division III championships.
