Painted into a corner

A sweating exercise biker at the gym spoke so loudly into his cellphone he shouldn’t mind anyone overhearing, and quoting him, on this:

“I’m lookin’ for a good deal … Need to paint my condo … Lookin’ for someone good, out of work, who’d do it for a little less … Maybe someone on unemployment, willing to work under the table without losing benefits … Someone good, who needs the work. …”

Whether it’s global issues or politics or the markets or everyday life needs, we’re caught in interesting intermixes of self-interest and/or attending to the common good.

I hope he found a painter.

I hope some searcher found a job.

Pity, such basic needs depend on frightfully fragile relationships and systems – and human intentions.
