Leadership is lacking

I read Gary Crooks’ op-ed in Sunday’s Spokesman-Review and would like to offer my comment.

The problem is not only with the attitude of some of the officers of the Spokane Police Department. This has been a longstanding issue of lack of leadership.

The leadership, for many years it seems, has been absent. Our mayor, whom I have supported in the past, has shown a distinct lack of leadership. Our police chief, Anne Kirkpatrick, has also been absent in solving this long-standing problem in our community.

If this type of behavior were to exist in the private sector (unionized or not), the management would call everyone together and work to solve this horrid issue. If necessary, one would terminate the whole lot and change the mindset.

Allowing the inmates to run the asylum is not the answer.
