Religion Notebook: Veterans Day Mass Friday

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, 1115 W. Riverside Ave., will offer a special Veterans Day Mass Friday at noon.

The Rev. Darrin Connall, rector of the cathedral, will celebrate the Mass, the Knights of Columbus will serve as the honor guard and Chris Cook, the cathedral trumpeter, will play taps.

All veterans are invited to attend.

North Hill marks 100th year

North Hill Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 4620 N. Post St., will celebrate 100 years of worship this weekend.

There will be an open house Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. in Hazen Hall on the church grounds, which will also include a historical display.

On Sunday during its 10:30 a.m. service, the Rev. Rick Morse, former minister of youth and music, will deliver the message. Former members of the church will also participate. The service will also include special music, the Chancel Choir, the Emanon Choir and Marion’s Bells.

A reception will follow the service.

The church was organized on Nov. 7, 1911, and temporary locations housed the congregation until the lot where the church stands now was purchased. Construction of the building began in September 1912 and it was dedicated Jan. 15, 1913.

Gospel concert on Sunday

Mount Spokane Church, 6311 E. Mount Spokane Drive, will present the Southern-gospel quartet, FourGiven, Sunday at 5 p.m.

The concert will benefit the Revs. John and Barb Tusant who are raising funds to visit Mongolia to teach English to native junior high and senior high school teachers and to share the Gospel.

There is no cost to attend, although donations will be accepted.

Penny auction helps church

Moran United Methodist Church will present its 13th annual Penny Auction Saturday at the Southside Senior Center, 3151 E. 27th Ave.

The event kicks off at 11 a.m. Tickets will be sold in bags of 200 for $2, 500 for $5, 1,000 for $10 and 2,000 for $20.

The tickets will be used to raffle off more than 200 gift baskets and donations from local businesses at 1 p.m. You must be present to win.

Proceeds will benefit the mission and special needs of the church.

Soup and sandwich Saturday

Lidgerwood Presbyterian Church, 4449 N. Nevada St., will present a soup-and-sandwich supper Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.

The dinner will include minestrone, chicken- or egg-salad sandwiches and apple rum cake.

The cost to attend is $4 or $3 for children younger than 5.

Holiday bazaars planned

• Mission Community Presbyterian Church, 2103 E. Mission Ave., will present a Christmas bazaar Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Items up for sale include baked goods, Christmas gift baskets and more.

There will also be a raffle and refreshments.

• The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., will present its 83rd annual Holiday Bazaar Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Items for sale include handmade crafts, baked goods, white elephant items, soups, books and more.

There will be several raffles for gift baskets, tickets are $1 each. There will also be a super raffle for tickets to the Bach Festival and a vintage mink stole for $5.

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a style show of vintage clothing from Windfall Thrift Store.
