In brief: Two vacancies on Planning Commission

SPOKANE VALLEY – The city of Spokane Valley is looking for volunteers to fill two Planning Commission openings. The commission generally meets twice a month to review and make recommendations to the City Council on zoning and planning issues.

Both unpaid positions are for three-year terms. The mayor will appoint the new commission members subject to the city council’s approval. Applicants must live within the Spokane Valley city limits. Lodging tax committee seeks volunteers

SPOKANE VALLEY – Two volunteers are needed to fill positions of the Spokane Valley Lodging Tax Advisory Committee. The committee includes representatives of organizations required to collect the lodging tax and organizations qualified to receive funding from the tax. Every year the committee recommends how the lodging tax money should be spent.

Both openings are for representatives of organizations eligible to receive funding from the day. One position is a one-year term and the other is for a two-year term. The mayor will appoint the new committee members subject to the city council’s approval. Applications are available online at www.spokanevalley.org or at City Hall, 11707 E. Ron’s Drive Inn announces contest winners

OPPORTUNITY – To celebrate the month of October, Ron’s Drive Inn, 12502 E. Sprague Ave., held a coloring contest for kids, ages 3 to 10. Everyone who entered the contest received a small ice cream and the entries were judged on Halloween.

First prize, a $50 Ron’s gift card, was awarded to 10-year-old Piper Lawson; second place, a $25 Ron’s card, was given to 4-year-old Dillan Gaford; and third place, a $10 Ron’s card, was awarded to 8-year-old Stephanie Sawchuk.

All entries will be on display in Ron’s this month.
