Early 1900s: Photo of the King Grocery, at the corner of Maxwell Avenue and Monroe Street in north Spokane. The store was owned by Joel Barnes King, a Spokane pioneer.

Present day: A building still bearing the name of the King family sits on the southwest corner of Maxwell and Monroe. Joel Barnes King and his wife settled in Spokane in 1901.
